Design

We have designed over fifty beautiful oak framed garages for you to choose from and the beauty of running our own sawmill is these designs are all flexible. You can add log stores, cat-slides, doorways and much more to tailor your personal needs. We stand alone with the launch of our Supersize™ range, these striking buildings add superior width to each bay and are designed to allow a large family vehicle pull up inside then fully open all of its doors without touching the side walls. For those who are after something particularly unique, our bespoke service has created some innovative buildings for clients around the UK.

Planning

We always recommend contacting your Local Planning Authority to check whether your proposed building requires planning permission. Many of our structures can be erected in your garden or surrounding land without the need to apply for planning. In fact we have designed some frames with a ridge height of under four metres to fall within non-planning limits. However there are other determining factors so we recommend that your intentions are clarified before you proceed.

When planning permission has been granted you can order your frame. If it has a footprint of over 30 square metres of usable floor area then building regulations will apply. This is something we can take care of on your behalf. Occasionally Fire Regulations apply, most commonly to oak framed garages which are two-storey or near boundaries. All of our specially designed two-storey buildings sit above the structural requirements stipulated by fire regulations. This is not always the case with other companies but standard practice with The Brookwood Barn Company ™

When handling the entire project we provide a full set of drawings and our experienced architect will deal with planning and building regulation applications on your behalf. Most clients prefer this service which we provide at a set fee. However we are happy to work alongside your local architect if you prefer and will move swiftly to assist them in achieving your permission. To begin with we have set out a general guide to planning regulations within our brochure to give you an indication of the planning parameters.
